Description
A filter bottle for your outdoor adventures
Whether you are hiking, travelling, at a festival, camping, cycling or practising bushcraft, the Smarald® TW-0004 combines a 650 ml bottle made of BPA-free Tritan with a built-in two-stage filter. Drink through the straw in the lid. A compass and carabiner are included.
Use the bottle for clear fresh water from streams or for tap water on the go. At festivals and campsites, choose a designated drinking-water point. The filter alone does not ensure that water from natural sources is safe to drink and does not reliably retain viruses. Water of uncertain microbiological quality requires additional suitable disinfection.
How the two-stage filter works
A PP nonwoven pre-filter complements the two filter stages.
Stage 1: hollow-fibre membrane with a 0.1 µm pore size
As you draw water through the mouthpiece, it passes through the hollow-fibre membrane. Particles and suspended matter larger than the pores are retained. Pore size alone does not establish that water of unknown quality is safe to drink.
Stage 2: activated carbon for taste and odour
The second stage contains coconut-shell activated carbon to improve the taste and odour of the water. This does not make the bottle suitable for chemically contaminated water.
Suitable water sources and limitations
- Designed for clear fresh water and tap water on the go; choose your water source carefully.
- Does not desalinate water: do not use with salt water or seawater.
- Not suitable for chemically contaminated water. Avoid sources that may contain pollutants such as fuel or pesticides.
- The filter does not replace an assessment of water quality or any additional disinfection that may be needed.
Use, care and filter replacement
Filling the bottle and drinking
- Unscrew the lid and remove the filter.
- Fill the bottle with suitable water.
- Refit the filter and screw the lid back on.
- Draw water through the mouthpiece. It passes through the filter as you drink.
You need to suck actively to draw water through the filter; expect a slower drinking flow than with a bottle without a filter.
Before first use, rinse the bottle and filter as described in the enclosed instructions. Follow those instructions for assembly and preparation.
Cleaning and storage
The silicone mouthpiece is removable. Clean the bottle, lid, mouthpiece and filter according to the enclosed care instructions, including the guidance on drying and storage.
When should the filter be replaced?
The manufacturer specifies a filter life of up to 1,500 litres, depending on water quality. Actual service life may be shorter. Follow the enclosed instructions for replacement; the litre rating does not establish a fixed replacement interval in time.
The compatible replacement filter for the TW-0004 is Smarald® TWZ-003, sold separately. Follow the enclosed instructions for removal, installation and preparation.

Test reports for model K8618
An SGS test report (2014, model K8618) confirms that tap water filtered through the bottle showed, among other results, no detectable coliform bacteria and no detectable heavy metals.
Report AHS14-030996-01 concerns manufacturer model K8618, which corresponds to the TW-0004. It analysed tap water after filtration; this was not a challenge test using added microorganisms. It therefore does not demonstrate a particular bacterial or viral reduction rate or suitability for arbitrary water sources.
In the 2014 STEK BPA test, BPA was not detected in any of the components tested.

The Smarald® filter bottle is my faithful companion on…
The Smarald® filter bottle is my loyal companion on trips and mountain biking tours. With it, you can filter and ionize spring water on the go. Simply brilliant! The built-in compass is a nice gimmick! The bottle's filter can also be replaced, so you don't have to buy a completely new bottle. That convinced me! In addition, the bottle is made of BPA-free Tritan! Price-performance ratio: TOP!

„Works okay, you have to pump strongly, you drink slowly. I can't assess the quality with dirty water yet.“

Funktioniert ok man muss kräftig saugen man Trinkt langsam. Qualität bei verschmutztem Wasser kann ich noch nicht einschätzen.
„Works, but very slow. To what extent the filter is actually reliable cannot be said.“

Funktioniert, aber sehr träge. In wie weit der Filter wirklich zuverlässig ist kann man nicht sagen.
„Gute Qualität und schnelle Lieferung.Danke“
